Terms of Service
Agreement
By creating a Grains account or using the Grains service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
Grains is a subscription-funded photo sharing service. The service allows you to take photographs with cryptographic provenance, store them, and share them within private groups called Circles and collaborative albums called Memory Rooms.
Your account
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@grainsapp.com.
Photographs
You retain full ownership of every photograph you take and upload to Grains. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your photographs.
By uploading a photograph, you grant Grains a limited license to store, transmit, and display that photograph to you and to the people you choose to share it with. This license exists solely to operate the service and terminates when you delete the photograph or your account.
You may only upload photographs that you have made yourself. Grains is for photographs — images made by a person, with a camera, in the presence of what they depict. AI-generated images, screenshots, and manipulated images are not permitted.
Provenance and authenticity
Photographs taken in the Grains app are signed using the C2PA standard. This cryptographic signature attests to the device, time, and conditions under which the photograph was made. Tampering with, forging, or misrepresenting provenance data is a violation of these terms.
Prohibited conduct
You may not use Grains to:
- Upload photographs depicting illegal activity
- Upload intimate images of another person without their consent
- Upload images depicting the exploitation of minors
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
- Attempt to circumvent the C2PA signing process
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the service
- Use automated means to access the service without permission
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
Subscriptions and payment
Grains is a paid service. New accounts include a 14-day free trial. After the trial, a subscription is required to continue using the service. Subscription fees are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
We may change subscription prices with 30 days' notice. Price changes do not apply to the current billing period.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your photographs and personal data will be removed within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. If we do, we will tell you why, unless doing so would compromise the safety of other users or violate the law.
Limitation of liability
Grains is provided as-is. We make no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
